Young Punjabi Soulja - Lil Deep

A very gifted writer and a talented rapper, the new generation's next big artist Lil Deep also known as Young Punjabi Soulja. Originally, from the streets of Hoshiarpur, Punjab - India, Lil Deep immigrated to the USA in 1997 and currently resides in the city of Los Angeles, California. The young mastermind started writing at the age of 15. Initially, Lil Deep focused mainly on Ghost Writing (writing for other artists), staying out of the spotlight. After coming across many artists and friends who also were into music, they highly encouraged Lil Deep to deliver his own lyrics. He then realized this is truly what he wanted to do—to express his feelings and struggles of his people through music.

It wasn’t until the summer of 2006, that Lil Deep began to take his music seriously—meeting various musicians who wanted to take their music to a greater level, as well. Lil Deep’s love for music was tremendously influenced by his experiences living as a Punjabi Sikh. Music is universal and the message he aims to send through writing is that there is no color, race or religion in Music. Lil Deep connected with people of different races and cultures through his knowledge on Hip Hop and it has made life growing up less of a struggle compared to other Sikhs and Indians.

Lil Deep isn’t your every day Rap artist. He grew up listening to Punjabi and Hindi music, as well as Shabad’s, which are religious Sikh hymns. Lil Deep says, “I love Hip Hop and I love my Indian music. Music has played a big part of my childhood life. Coming from Punjab to the United States, I was very much influenced by the Hip Hop culture but I never lost my love for Punjabi and Hindi music.” Lil Deep noted that collaborations with such artists are also in the works. A most definite attribute observed in him is his individuality and he doesn’t fail to bring different flavors to his music.

Not only does he have the talent to write, he also practices, produces and records his own music straight out of the comfort of his bedroom with his own equipment. Aside from his own production, Lil Deep has had the chance to shine on the beats of producers such as Guess Who, Dj Ruff, Dj RBS,DJ Kurioo (soul tap Records) and Amit from the UK. Presently, his main goal is to put his work on the table and see how the world takes it. A tough goal with a tough schedule, he has the heart, mind, drive and the determination to step out from behind the curtains and take his music a step further with his first mixtape/album dropping this year!
